What we researched for this specific generation: where an enclosure actually fits, what the factory speakers are, how the factory audio is wired, and which real builds and commercial products exist for it. Confidence badges say how well each figure is sourced — this is research, not manufacturer spec.
Body styles covered: 2-Door Coupe (targa), 2-Door Convertible
These are researched envelopes, not a guarantee. Measure your own vehicle — the numbers here tell you what to expect, not what you have.
| Location | coupe rear hatch area, beneath the targa top storage area |
|---|---|
| Outer bounding box | Coupe: 42"W x 9"H x 34"D. Convertible: 43"W x 10"H x 15"/16"D. |
| Known obstructions | COUPE: the targa top storage area sits above this space, and the published figure is what remains beneath it — so unlike the C7, you do not have to subtract for the roof yourself. Nine inches of height is the real limit. CONVERTIBLE: depth is the killer at 15-16". Design to the smaller 15" figure per the catalog rule on paired depths. On either car the rear deck is available for amplifiers even when it is not available for a box. |
| Usable volume estimate | 1.8 ft³ |
Suggested configurations for this vehicle, not prescriptions. Run the numbers in the Box Builder before you buy anything.
| Subwoofers | Powered subwoofer — the source's suggestion for both body styles given the space |
|---|---|
| Box type | powered enclosure |
| Location | coupe hatch / convertible rear area |
| Subwoofers | JL Audio Stealthbox with a 10" driver — a named vehicle-specific product for this car, coupe only |
|---|---|
| Box type | vehicle-specific sealed |
| Location | driver's-side rear hatch area |
| Subwoofers | Custom shallow build to 42"W x 9"H x 34"D on the coupe, plus a rack of amplifiers on the rear deck, which the source explicitly says has plenty of room. Not realistic in the convertible at 15" of depth |
|---|---|
| Box type | custom shallow sealed |
| Location | coupe hatch area |
Sizes and depths below are what research turned up for this generation. Confirm against your own vehicle before cutting or ordering — trim levels vary.
| Factory speaker size | 8" WOOFERS plus 3-1/2" TWEETERS, the same on base and Bose cars. The tweeters are reasonably easy to replace. THE WOOFERS ARE THE PROBLEM — see known_obstructions, because there are three separate obstacles stacked on them. |
|---|---|
| Known obstructions | THREE OBSTACLES ON THE 8" WOOFERS, and together they make this a fabrication job rather than a swap. (1) The factory woofers use an ULTRA-THIN design, which the source says presents a number of challenges finding anything that fits. (2) ON BOSE CARS THE WOOFERS HAVE SMALL AMPLIFIERS ATTACHED TO THEM — so even if you find a suitable replacement driver, YOU LOSE THOSE AMPS. (3) NO PRE-MADE MOUNTING BRACKETS EXIST, so a bracket has to be fabricated; the source points at a universal plastic panel, noting it is the same plastic regular speaker brackets are made from, cut to shape. NO SPEAKER WIRING ADAPTERS are available for the tweeter location, nor for the woofer location on Bose cars. |
| Adapter bracket needed | No pre-made bracket exists — one must be fabricated from universal plastic panel |
| Tweeter | Door (all cars). Plus corner-dash tweeters on 2012+ 9-speaker Bose cars, wired in parallel with the front door midrange speakers. CRUTCHFIELD RESEARCHED THOSE CORNER TWEETERS AND FOUND THEY CANNOT BE REMOVED WITHOUT DAMAGING THE DASH — a hard negative result, not a difficulty rating. Leave them alone. |
| Midrange | Front door, on cars with the 2012+ 9-speaker Bose system |
| Factory speaker size | None — two-door car. Coupe has rear side panel speakers, convertible has rear wall speakers (see other_speaker_locations). |
|---|---|
| Known obstructions | n/a |
| Adapter bracket needed | n/a |
| Factory amp / premium audio | Base and Bose systems across the run, and from 2012 a 9-SPEAKER AM/FM/SiriusXM/DVD/NAVIGATION BOSE SYSTEM appeared on the options list, adding corner dash tweeters wired in parallel with the front door midranges. UNLIKE THE C7, THE C6's HEAD UNIT IS REPLACEABLE — a good range of single-DIN and double-DIN receivers fit with a dash kit. But it is not a beginner job: Crutchfield rates the radio removal a 3 on its own 1-5 difficulty scale, meaning reasonably skilled and experienced people. AND IT NEEDS MORE THAN A HARNESS: see known_integration_products, because this car wants an adapter AND a switching relay. |
|---|---|
| Adding subs without a head-unit swap | Yes, and given the difficulty rating and the relay requirement it is the lower-risk path. The rear deck is explicitly called out as good amplifier real estate even though enclosure space is tight. |
| Head unit | No replacement needed |
COUPE: 42"W x 9"H x 34"D, and note the framing — the source measures the area UNDER THE TARGA TOP STORAGE AREA, so unlike the C7 this figure is already net of somewhere to put the roof. CONVERTIBLE: 43"W x 10"H x 15"/16"D — nearly the same width and height but less than half the depth, and the source calls it plainly not much. Both body styles are candidates for a powered sub rather than a built box. SEPARATELY WORTH KNOWING: the source calls the rear deck a great mounting spot for a RACK OF AMPLIFIERS, with plenty of room — so on this car the amp real estate is better than the enclosure real estate.

Measure your own vehicle. Trim levels, factory subwoofer options, and mid-generation changes all move these numbers, and a box cut to a researched figure that does not match your truck is wasted wood. Where a badge reads Unconfirmed, treat the value as a starting point for your own measurement, not as an answer.
