What we researched for this specific generation: where an enclosure actually fits, what the factory speakers are, how the factory audio is wired, and which real builds and commercial products exist for it. Confidence badges say how well each figure is sourced — this is research, not manufacturer spec.
Body styles covered: 4-Door SUV, 3rd row optional
These are researched envelopes, not a guarantee. Measure your own vehicle — the numbers here tell you what to expect, not what you have.

| Outer bounding box | Published box footprints are lower bounds on the cavity, not the cavity: NET Audio 2002-2005 Explorer 44.5 x 13 x 17 in (as printed; axes not labelled), 3.39 ft3, 8.5 in mounting depth. |
| Known obstructions | not stated |
Sizes and depths below are what research turned up for this generation. Confirm against your own vehicle before cutting or ordering — trim levels vary.
| Factory speaker size | no Ford or Metra source gives the door speaker size for these years (Metra's Ford install page lists only 2015-and-later models) |

| Factory amp / premium audio | Ford's 2004 Explorer owner's guide names the radios: "AUDIOPHILE SATELLITE COMPATIBLE AM/FM STEREO IN-DASH SIX CD RADIO (IF EQUIPPED)" and "PREMIUM AM/FM STEREO/CASSETTE/SINGLE CD (IF EQUIPPED)". It gives no speaker count, wattage or subwoofer. |

NET Audio is the only box maker found with a 2002-2005 Explorer box: one footprint, sold sealed or ported (both listed below). It sits behind the third-row seat, so it applies to Explorers with the third row, which Ford's 2004 owner's guide marks "(if equipped)". The same guide: "The 3rd row seat has a tip/stow feature to increase cargo space without removing the seat from the vehicle." No maker cargo figure is on file and the EPA's 2004 Explorer record prints 0 for every luggage field, so the box maker's listings are the fit data.
Outside links. Some are commercial products, some are owner builds posted on forums — the label says which. We do not endorse any of them.

Measure your own vehicle. Trim levels, factory subwoofer options, and mid-generation changes all move these numbers, and a box cut to a researched figure that does not match your truck is wasted wood. Where a badge reads Unconfirmed, treat the value as a starting point for your own measurement, not as an answer.
