2011-2016 Hyundai Elantra MD — subwoofer box fitment

What we researched for this specific generation: where an enclosure actually fits, what the factory speakers are, how the factory audio is wired, and which real builds and commercial products exist for it. Confidence badges say how well each figure is sourced — this is research, not manufacturer spec.

Body styles covered: 4-Door Sedan

This guide covers the 2011-2016 Elantra only. The 2017-2020 Hyundai Elantra has its own guide.

Factory audio integration

Factory amp / premium audioHyundai releases. 2011 (Nov. 18, 2010): "Standard is a 172-watt AM/FM/Satellite Radio/CD/MP3 audio system with six-speakers"; "A 360-watt system with external amplifier is optional." Neither system is tied to a trim, no speaker brand and no subwoofer is named. 2012: the same two systems in the same words ("Elantra is available with two audio systems."). 2014 (Hyundai's refresh release): "Elantra SE and Sport have an AM/FM/SiriusXM/CD/MP3 audio system with six speakers"; the Sport and Limited have a 4.3-inch color touchscreen audio system, part of the Preferred Package on the SE; "Elantra Limited features an optional premium audio system with navigation that pumps out 360-watts of sound and includes an external amplifier." 2015 (July 3, 2014): "Elantra is available with three audio systems"; standard audio system with six speakers; the Sport and Limited offer an optional seven-inch touch-screen with an external 360-watt amplifier; the Sport Tech Package lists "360-watt Premium audio with external digital amp". No subwoofer, speaker count for the upgraded systems, or brand is stated. No Hyundai release describing the 2016's audio was found, so its systems are not stated here. The eight-speaker Infinity system with a subwoofer belongs to the 2017 car (the next generation). Speaker sizes and positions are not stated.

Trunk Unconfirmed

Hyundai's releases print a trunk volume of 14.8 cu ft for the sedan: the 2011 release (Nov. 18, 2010), the 2012 release and the 2015 release (July 3, 2014) all say "Elantra's trunk volume at 14.8 cubic feet" and the 2015 comparison table's "Cargo volume (cu. ft.)" row reads 14.8. No Hyundai figure for the 2016 was found. EPA's luggage figure is 15 for the 2011, 2015 and 2016 sedans, so the two differ by 0.2; Hyundai's figure is stored. Both are luggage ratings, not box dimensions. No trunk width, length, height or opening appears in any of them. No box made for a 2011-2016 Elantra was found from the box makers checked. NVX sells a bass package titled for the 2016-2020 Elantra (listed on the 2017-2020 page); NVX does not say whether it fits the 2016 car. Measure your own trunk before cutting wood.

Before you cut anything

Measure your own vehicle. Trim levels, factory subwoofer options, and mid-generation changes all move these numbers, and a box cut to a researched figure that does not match your truck is wasted wood. Where a badge reads Unconfirmed, treat the value as a starting point for your own measurement, not as an answer.
