What we researched for this specific generation: where an enclosure actually fits, what the factory speakers are, how the factory audio is wired, and which real builds and commercial products exist for it. Confidence badges say how well each figure is sourced — this is research, not manufacturer spec.
Body styles covered: 4-Door SUV
These are researched envelopes, not a guarantee. Measure your own vehicle — the numbers here tell you what to expect, not what you have.
| Location | cargo area (retailer-measured, promoted from existing notes) |
|---|---|
| Outer bounding box | 38"W x 18"H x 29"/27"D. ADDED 2026-10-02 — Jeep's own spec sheets (2014, 2016-2019): distance between the wheelhouse interior trim 39.4 in; maximum cargo width at the liftgate opening 41.4 in 'without subwoofer'; minimum width at the top of the opening 36.1 in; maximum height at the liftgate opening 32.5 in (4x4 Lock), minimum 30.7 in (4x2). The 38" W above is a retailer measurement on a different convention from Jeep's 39.4 in wheelhouse figure; both kept, not averaged. Jeep's 'without subwoofer' wording means the factory sub narrows the opening on cars that have it. |
| Known obstructions | Factory 8" sub location (right rear per one source, left rear panel per another — real sourcing conflict already flagged, not resolved) is a smaller anchor point within this envelope |
| Usable volume estimate | 4 ft³ |
Suggested configurations for this vehicle, not prescriptions. Run the numbers in the Box Builder before you buy anything.
| Subwoofers | 1x8" factory-location replacement, or the $40 cubby-hole 10" DIY build |
|---|---|
| Box type | sealed |
| Location | factory location or existing cargo cubby |
| Subwoofers | 1x10" or 1x12" standalone |
|---|---|
| Box type | sealed or ported |
| Location | cargo area |
Sizes and depths below are what research turned up for this generation. Confirm against your own vehicle before cutting or ordering — trim levels vary.
| Factory speaker size | 6x9", 4-ohm (base 6-speaker system) — door speaker size stays 6x9" even on the 9-speaker Alpine premium system. Real, notable design fact: this generation's high-frequency reproduction is NOT handled by a true in-door tweeter — it comes from separate full-range 3.5" speakers in the rear pillars and dash instead (see other_speaker_locations and rear_doors). |
|---|---|
| Known obstructions | None specifically documented |
| Adapter bracket needed | Real, uncommon-for-this-database finding: a genuine Metra 71-039C wiring adapter exists for this generation's speaker upgrades, allowing plug-and-play swaps without cutting/splicing factory harnesses — the opposite of the 'no adapter exists' pattern found repeatedly on other domestic vehicles. |
| Tweeter | n/a in the front doors — no true tweeter; high frequencies come from the dash and rear-pillar 3.5" full-range speakers instead (Alpine 9-speaker system only) |
| Factory speaker size | 6x9", 4-ohm |
|---|---|
| Known obstructions | None specifically documented |
| Adapter bracket needed | Metra 71-039C (same real adapter noted on front doors) |
| Factory amp / premium audio | 8" factory subwoofer confirmed standard equipment on sub-equipped trims. ADDED 2026-10-02 — Jeep's feature-availability sheets: six speakers are standard on every trim; the premium system is the 'Alpine premium audio system with nine speakers, subwoofer and 506-watt amplifier'. 2017: a package on Latitude, optional on Limited and Trailhawk, standard on Overland. 2021: standard on Limited; packaged on Latitude Plus, Latitude LUX and Trailhawk; not offered on the base Latitude. Jeep does not state the subwoofer size or location, so the 8" figure above stays a non-maker claim. |
|---|---|
| Adding subs without a head-unit swap | Confirmed straightforward — factory location upgrade path exists (correct trim panel part number: 1UD08DX9AF) plus cheap DIY options |
| Head unit | No replacement needed |
Real measured cargo space: 38"W x 18"H x 29"/27"D. Factory subwoofer is an 8" driver, 6-hole bolt pattern. SOURCE INCONSISTENCY WORTH FLAGGING: one source describes the factory sub as being in the 'right rear of the cargo area,' another describes the aftermarket-relevant panel as the 'left rear panel' — these may both be accurate (sub in one location, a distinctly-shaped trim panel on the other side) or may reflect a genuine sourcing conflict. Don't resolve this by guessing; verify directly before treating either side as confirmed.

Measure your own vehicle. Trim levels, factory subwoofer options, and mid-generation changes all move these numbers, and a box cut to a researched figure that does not match your truck is wasted wood. Where a badge reads Unconfirmed, treat the value as a starting point for your own measurement, not as an answer.
