Trucks built before February 2023: standard in-house 'Rivian' audio, or the upgraded 'Rivian Elevation by Meridian' system (co-engineered with Meridian, 18-19 speakers, 1200W amplifier), confirmed via Meridian's own published spec sheet. Meridian's own R1T sheet contradicts itself on the count: its heading reads 'RIVIAN R1T, 18 SPEAKERS' and its body 'It includes 19 speakers ... powered by a 1200-watt amplifier'. The sheet lists speaker types (tweeter, midrange, woofer, subwoofer, centre channel, heights) with no sizes or door/dash split. From February 2023 production Rivian replaced Meridian with its own in-house 'Rivian Elevation' system, the R1T going from 18 to 16 speakers (the two removed being the rear passenger-door midranges), per a news report quoting Rivian's support documentation (driveteslacanada.ca — secondary; Rivian's own pages could not be read). Rivian's 2024-06-04 second-generation (Gen 2) R1T compare sheet names 'Rivian Audio' (included) and 'Rivian Premium Audio' (optional), with no Meridian name. So the Meridian details apply to 2022 to early-2023 trucks only; the speaker counts and names for later Gen 1 and for Gen 2 are as stated and nothing more is known about them here. |

Active build community on Rivian Forums / Rivian Owners Forum. Factory subwoofer lives under the rear seat, firing outward through a grille at the seat base, in a thin (~1/8") custom-molded plastic enclosure. Most documented aftermarket installs (a 10" JL powered sub via Crutchfield, wired with an 8AWG power kit routed under passenger-side carpet/plastics to the rear seat area) also use this same under-rear-seat location, replacing or supplementing the factory sub. A purpose-built product (SoonishEV 'Tubthumper' enclosure + wiring kit) exists specifically for Gen 1/Gen 2 R1T, plug-and-play with the OEM system, no cutting/splicing. Separately, some owners have installed subwoofer boxes in the Gear Tunnel (an 11.7 ft3, 65"-long pass-through storage area with LED lighting, 12V + 110V outlets) as an alternative, though this trades away Gear Tunnel storage.
